Looking Back at 2007

I thought I'd end the year with a look back at some of the calls I made a mere 12 months ago. Some were good, others didn't pan out quite as well as I'd hoped.

So, with no further ado:
Unemployment in Ohio will rise above 6%. Unemployment in October reached 5.9%, with November at 5.6%. We won't get December numbers until next month, but I'm going to call this one a qualified sort-of...

No border fence with Mexico. Nope, don't see one yet. *ding*

Hillary will wait before announcing her candidacy. *buzz* I admit, I missed this one. And look where it's gotten her - a big early boost, followed by falling numbers that may cost her in Iowa.

No ground will be broken on new arena. Missed this one by a couple of months - and was feeling quite secure with winter coming on.

Fees on garbage pickup. A big *ding* on this one. And to think, the "temporary" 3/4% income tax hasn't been repealed.

Erie Street Market to remain closed. In all fairness, has anyone realized it is open? Look for a possible resolution to this money pit from City Council on Jan. 2. (yeah, right)

Steam Plant shows not sign of progress. Can I get a "whoop whoop"? Well, the David and Jimmy Show sure did, with new tax credits!

Southwyck Mall remains on deadmalls.com. It is still listed as a "museum." *ding*

Blade labor dispute to last several months. The issue lasted into July - I do believe that qualifies. *ding*

I'll give you a *whoop whoop* on the Steamplant.

I hope you have a wonderful New Year.

Nice to hear from you at long last, RWT!

I was down by the Erie St. Market late last night trying to postmark mail by 2007 --very colorful looking. I remember that it was one of Marcy Kaptur's pork projects. I always get lost down there because there are two post offices --aren't there? in downtown Toledo? and the main one on St. Clair is hard to find if you don't go there often. we were looking on Erie st. but I had a vague memory that the P.O. was east of the market. but the map my son pulled off the internet was absolutely no help and may have been for a P.O. on Erie --there is one separate from the one on St. Clair? We didn't find it either.

My son in law says the proposed development downtown using more city dollars is a waste --because no one wants to go down town for their entertainment. I see Spaghetti Warehouse is still holding forth.

I live near Southwyck and am sorry for its demise --I hope it revives because I can't imagine these outdoor malls remaining popular except now for the novelty. I would think the baby boomers would prefer getting inside and on their scooters! A scooter mall where everyone can ride --I can see this as REALLY fun and entertaining! Need traffic cops, of course.

barb says you block my comments because I'm too far left.

Speaking of left, have you left this blog?

No Muck, I don't block comments because you're too far left. The comments I block (yours or others) are often because they stray off topic or deviate into the personal attack.

As to my absense from this blog, a post is forthcomming regarding this.
