The first rights to get axed in socialist countries is gun ownership to pave the way for more infringments of the rights of the people. Most of our Democrats in the US are closet socialists which explains their gun grabbing tendency.
And most democrats in Washington probably believed in the second amendment shortly after they got there, if they didn't believe it before arriving.
Sometimes exposure to reality can change a person's mind, despite their public stance.
