Friday Quote, 7-4-07

Citizens by birth or choice, of a common country, that country has a right to concentrate your affections. The name of AMERICAN, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations.

- George Washington, President of the United States

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Amen, brother George, Amen.

Unfortunately, the dhimmicrats don't see it that way.

Do you refer to BLIND patriotism like that which led to our preemptive invasion of Iraq on specious information?

Would you like the citizens to be bobbleheads like the Germans were in 1939?

Muck - did you read the quote? Washington was referring to the creation of a new nation, and that people should see the nation as a single entity, and not refer to themseleves as Virginians, Pennsylvanians, etc. In today's world, perhaps we should re-read this, and avoid the crass and artificial divisions propogated by the political left. Using race, gender, or any other defination is no different than calling oneself a Pennsylvania-American. In regards to the quote, Dots has it correct.

Rather, I ask you about the concept of 'patriotism itself.'

I fear that many folks view patriotism as a bobblehead reaction to whatever the government says.

What's your take on patriotism?

Muck,

First, no flaming others on this site (unless I've got the blow-torch), no matter how mild you think the suntan is.

As to patriotism, that's a different post on a different day. The question stands: does the liberal left believe in the compartmentalization of the citizenry of this country? G.W. is speaking directly to the point. Let's keep the discussion on topic.
